Skateboard Photography Awards Launched In UK

The UK will see the launch of the first ever Skateboard Photography Awards next month to celebrate culture of skateboarding in the country. Unlike traditional photography events, this will allow entries shot on both mobile devices and traditional equipment.

Skateboarding caught attention of the media last year with Skateboard GB athlete Sky Brown winning at bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, while her teammate Andy Macdonald, became the oldest ever skateboarder to compete at Olympic games, at the age of 51.

Skateboarding has seen phenomenal growth in popularity across the globe and was the 4th most searched for Olympic Sport during the summer games, alongside athletics, swimming and gymnastics.

Esteemed judges for the awards will include Garry Jones who was the head skateboard photographer for Skateboard GB at the Paris 2024 Olympics, alongside Mike Edwards; the Director of Sport at Getty Image and action sports photographer. They will be joined by Leo Sharp, a leading photographer in the British Skateboard scene of over 30 years and head of photography at Skateboarders Companion magazine.

James Hope-Gill, CEO at Skateboard GB, commented “We are delighted to be the first organization to launch the Skateboard Photography Awards. Skateboarding culture encompasses much more than the activity of skateboarding itself and photography using mobile phones is key part of that”.
